As Muslims celebrate the end of the one-month Ramadan fast, Abuja-based law firm, Law Corridor, has called for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians irrespective of religious or socio-cultural affinities.
The law firm congratulates Muslims across Nigeria on the celebrations of the Eid-el Fitr, and encourage them to sustain the virtues of discipline, sacrifice, restraint and devotion associated with the Holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement on Sunday, Law Corridor’s Deputy Managing Partner, Ajibola Bello, felicitated with Muslims and all Nigerians, praying that the Eid celebrations would bring peace and prosperity to all.
He harped on harmonious relationship and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians to forestall a repeat of the recent killing of travellers in Uromi, in the Esan North Local Government Area of Edo State by some vigilantes who mistook them for criminals.
“While the month of Ramadan has increased our faith and sense of sacrifice, we trust that the eid-il-fitr celebration will bring peace and blessings to us all.”
Bello stressed that Sections 34, 38 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution were clear about the fundamental rights of all Nigerians and which upheld that no person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment. The sections also upheld that all persons are entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion and as well guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and association, allowing individuals to gather freely and associate with others.
Bello urged Nigerians not to take laws into their hands and called for peace as security agents are handling the incident.
He said, “As we sucessfully mark the end of the Ramadan for the 1446 Islamic Calendar year, we, at Law Corridor, express our heartfelt felicitation with every Muslim faithful, including our clients, business associates, friends of the firm and the general public.
“While the month of Ramadan has increased our faith and sense of sacrifice, we trust that the eid-il-fitr celebration will bring peace and blessings to us all.
“There is no gainsayng that the period of Ramadan bears with it the elements of discipline, devotion, endurance, and sacrifice as we lay aside and give up our mundane desires for the service of God and the benefit of humanity. As the holy month comes to a closure, we can only admonish that we maintain and sustain these elements and more gained through the spirit of Ramadan.”
